In “Red Carpet“, Swiss trumpet player Christof Mahnig has nurtured a transparent group sound closely aligned with his open, full and singular tone he brings to his instrument. The rich traditions he has assimilated encounter a contemporary notion of interplay and composition, and merge into a fresh take on the classic trumpet-guitar quartet. Each individual in the group contributes fluent, strong and individual ideas to help shape this compelling content. The compositions are assembled around the 16 minutes suite “Three Pictures“ that forms the album’s gravitational centre.
