Simon Nabatov Quintet
After the extraordinary success of Nature Morte (CD LR 310), Simon Nabatov comes up with a double CD based on a novel by a great Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov “Master and Margarita.” Nabatov’s quintet is made up of stellar members of the New York Downtown scene: Mark Feldman (violin), Herb Robertson (trumpet), Mark Helias (bass), Tom Rainey (drums). The book provided Nabatov with a series of formal analogues, structuring patterns, scenic constructions and moods, well-spring of feelings and emotions ranging from swing rhythms to cool jazz textures bridged by improvisation.
