Song For Mother E

Amina Claudine Myers featuring Pheeroan akLAFF

The music was recorded in 1979 and released as an LP in 1980 to huge critical acclaim. Why was it gathering dust on the shelf for over 40 years and hadn’t become a CD? Only God knows. It is one of those mysterious things that defies explanation. By the time we decided to release it, the master tape deteriorated and eventually could not be used. To produce the CD we had to record it from the LP to digital. Alternating piano and organ Amina covers a huge scope of material from jazz to folk to free jazz to chant. Now the only question remains: does Amina’s music sound as fresh today as it sounded 40 odd years ago? We wonder what you think.
